Intrauterine device (IUD)
An IUD is a small plastic and copper device which is fitted in the uterus. This is a reliable method which can last five to ten years, although it can be easily removed at any time. It has no hormone in it, so women using this method continue to have periods as usual. You will need a pre-insertion counselling visit and assessment. IUDs are fitted at The Wolverton Centre in a booked appointment clinic (IUDs are fitted as emergency contraception in the walk-in clinic).
